Boise State University, the state’s largest university, is meeting with administration and instructors to discuss a $1.1 million faculty furlough plan, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Idaho Education News.
Amid the faculty furlough plans, comes a loss of $15 million in revenue as events were canceled and refunds for room and board were given to students, including a steep hit to the athletic department.
While the state budget cuts total about $10 million, Boise State spent about $8 million to get ready to reopen for this fall.
Interim provost, Dr. Tony Roark, said faculty are understandably frustrated.
Aspects of the plan still must be developed; other parts of the plan are set. For example, the furloughs will apply to all faculty working on nine- to 11-month contracts, where higher-paying instructors will take more of the hit. But logistics and when this is happening officially is still to be determined.
